University of Calgary

Welcome

Welcome

Our Department combines clinical, educational, and research activities in obstetrics and gynaecology, with faculty members of the Department contributing more generally to the life of the University. The combination of activities ensures that our teaching and research are grounded in clinical reality and remain relevant to patients and clinicians.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology research program has developed rapidly to become an important part of the Department's activities. Research is undertaken at all of the clinical sites (Foothills Medical Centre, Peter Lougheed Centre and Rockyview Medical Centre) and in all divisions of the Department: all faculty members are encouraged to undertake research, and residents are required to carry out research as part of their specialist training. The goals of our research program are:

  • To undertake clinically relevant research in obstetrics and gynaecology that will guide practice and improve the health of babies and mothers throughout their lives.
  • To undertake methodological research that will strengthen the quality and relevance of our research.
  • To provide research training for our residents and fellows, and encourage them to integrate scientific enquiry into their continuing obstetrical and gynaecological practice.
